When I first learned of the opportunity to submit a chapter to Speaking Your Truth, I knew immediately that this was the path I was supposed to follow.? I had been toying with the idea of writing for several years, but didn?t have any idea of how to get started.? What do I write about?? Who do I tell?? Do I keep it a secret?? How do I find a publisher?? What is the process like?? And on, and on.? I was letting my fear get in the way of taking action.
Writing has always been a passion of mine.? I can remember in high school I won first place for a short story I wrote and had my picture in the local newspaper with an article about my achievement.? But now,the fear of stepping out there an writing about my experiences, feelings and emotions were like a huge, heavy wooden door that I just couldn?t open.? It was daunting, to say the least.
I was introduced to Speaking Your Truth via several connections, IZOAR and Colorado Business Women.? Those links led me to Speaking Your Truth.? I am a firm believer in serendipity and knew that, should I be accepted, that this was the first step in my writing career.? To be published, aha!!? The elusive opening of the huge wooden door.
To be published is a feeling of acceptance by the authors of the world.? Although each contributor comes from a different life, a different world; we all share a common bond as writers of our stories; stories of our despair, triumphs and overcoming of fear.? For me, it was a? process that helped me to understand that what I experienced was part of the path that led me to today, working in media and writing.? The process was one that also helped me to always think the best of myself and hold my head up, no matter how many times I fell down.
I am so grateful to Lisa and Andrea for accepting my chapter into Speaking Your Truth.? It is truly as if this is the launching of a new me, a better me, a more tolerant me, a me that I can be proud of.? Thank you for having faith in me!!
Susie Schaefer attended college at California Polytechnic University of Pomona and moved to Colorado in 1992, where she lived in Vail for several years.? In 1997, Susie moved to Denver, where she met her husband Tim.? Susie is a member of the Northeastern Junior College Board of Trustees, Colorado Business Women of Sterling, and has a home based business as an Independent Consultant for Arbonne International.? In addition, Susie consults businesses in human resources and development of marketing plans.? Susie is actively working on the CASA project in Northeastern Colorado and plans to continue advocating for abused and neglected children.
